What Is a Date Duration Calculator?
How date-based duration calculations work.
Date duration basics
A Date Duration Calculator measures the span between two calendar dates. Where a day counter gives one number, this tool splits the answer into years, months and days.
Months are counted as whole calendar units despite their variable month lengths. January 31 to March 31 is "2 months", even though January has 31 days and February only 28 or 29.
Calendar-aware arithmetic
The Gregorian Calendar has uneven months and leap-year rules, so dividing total days by 30 gives the wrong number of months. This calculator subtracts properly — years first, then months, then the remaining days.
Total conversions
You also get total days (the exact count), total weeks (days ÷ 7), total hours (days × 24) and business days (weekdays only) — each one suits a different job.

Date Duration Calculator FAQ
Answers to common questions about the Date Duration Calculator.
Pick a start date and an end date. The calculator returns the gap as years, months and days, and also as total days, total weeks and total hours, with month lengths and leap years accounted for.
The result counts the days between the two dates, excluding both ends. Add 1 if you need to include one of them: January 1 to January 3 is 2 days between, or 3 days inclusive.
Gregorian calendar rules are applied: February gets 29 days in years divisible by 4, except century years not divisible by 400. Every month and year figure takes this into account.
Yes. Total days, total weeks and total hours are listed next to the years-months-days breakdown, so you can use whichever unit you need.
Every month is counted at its real length — 31 days for January, 28 or 29 for February, 30 for April and so on. One month after January 31 is February 28, or February 29 in a leap year.
Yes. It is free to use with nothing to download or sign up for, and your dates never leave your browser.
Count whole calendar months from the start date forward, then the leftover days. For example, March 15 to August 20 is 5 months and 5 days. The calculator does this automatically and also shows the total in days and weeks.
